Chapter One

Storm

I was dying.

The ache in my bones made me restless, but I lacked the strength to move. Pain, deep and throbbing, paralyzed my limbs. The tear in my wing stung, sharp and unrelenting, but it didn’t rival the burning in my eye.

I shivered against the growing chill in my limbs. Dragon’s bane was relentless. Only time remained before the poison quenched my internal fire. And then my heart would stop beating.

In the meantime, I endured the delusions that dragon’s bane forced on my mind, memories, nightmares. Recollections of long-dead and newly dead friends. Scenarios, both fictional and real, played out in my mind’s eye, twisting and turning so that every situation turned toxic. Hate, anger, and bitter regret churned through my being. I groaned deep in my chest and longed for the coming end. Anything to stop this torture.

As I drifted in and out of consciousness, fighting to maintain vigilance until the end, the sound of a plaintive whine cut through my tortured thoughts. I cracked my good eye open.

“Beggar.” My voice vibrated painfully in my throat.

The dark-brown dog with floppy ears sitting in my line of sight brightened up. He hopped onto all four of his paws and shook himself. A cloud of dirt and grit exploded from his coat.

I closed my eyes again, too tired to care.

The dog nudged my talons. I slit my eye open again. His thick brown tail whipped back and forth as he watched me. He was a solid creature, though surprisingly agile. He whimpered and did a strange backward shuffle as though encouraging me to follow him.

“No.” My lungs ached, irritated by the poison that I had accidentally breathed in the day before when I incinerated the foolish fae that attacked me. Or had it been mere hours ago? I found I didn’t care. My head throbbed.

With a bark, Beggar bounced on his two front paws and then glanced over his shoulder before he whined and turned in a tight circle.

My eyelid dragged downward as my ability to fight the poison ebbed. The acidic scent of dragon’s bane filled my senses in a rush, yet another sign the poison was permeating deeper into my body. “Go,” I told the dog.

At least he could escape.

“He can’t. They are guarding the door.” The sound of soft footfalls announced the invader far too late. My hearing must’ve been affected as well. I had missed her arrival. The voice sounded feminine.

I drew in a sharp breath and lifted my head. No metallic scent meant she carried no metal weapon and wore no armor. Still, that didn’t mean she was unarmed. I blinked through the film blurring my one good eye. Despite my best efforts, it refused to focus.

She was a slender, pale-faced blur carrying a lantern of some kind in the darkness of my makeshift refuge. “Have you come to kill me?”

“No.” She bent down and scratched the dog behind the ears. He leaned eagerly against her legs and then pranced around, desperate for more affection, foolish creature.

The female ignored the begging dog and approached. “I wish to heal you.”

I huffed in disbelief, producing a pathetic cloud of smoke. My fire was cooling faster than I expected.

“What happened to your eye?” she asked, tilting her head to the side.

“Another dragon’s claw.”

“And your wing?”

I tucked both of my wings closer to my torso. My pain intensified, but I ignored it. “Are you taking inventory for the butchers out there? Making sure I have all the essential parts so they can sell them off when I am dead?”

She grimaced before resuming her perusal. “If it is a rip, I don’t think I can heal it, but—” She peered up at my head as she walked around to my right side, out of my good eye’s range. “I think I can do something for your injured eyes, though.”

“They are more valuable as a matched set?”

She glared at me. I felt it more than saw it—a disconcerting sensation. My eyelids dragged down again. I gave in to the poison’s pull and dropped my head, resting my chin on the ground.

She moved around my snout with agitation in her tread. Had I been stronger, I would’ve reared back away from her. As it was, I didn’t even try. Instead, I forced my eye open. She pressed her palm to my snout.

“What are you doing?” I rasped out.

Healing you.

When duty calls, where will the heart go?

Joel’s twin has been hurt, and Joel decides to stay with him rather than join his new lovers across the sea. But fate, and a serial killer, have other plans.

Parisa and Noah are drifting apart and without Joel they might lose everything they’ve built.

Can this new throuple fight together to win their happiness or will evil triumph?

EXCERPT

“Hooo-elll…”

It was Parisa’s voice, but he couldn’t touch her physically or telepathically. All Joel’s senses were blurred.

Joel wasn’t sure if he’d passed out, but everything was foggy. Not dark, since he had no concept of light beyond the meaning of the word, but misty. It was like the fog that clung to his face and arms, to his hearing and sense of smell when he’d visited England thirty years ago. He’d never forget that sensation of everything being muffled. The sound of his own voice had been right, but the tapping of his cane tip on the cobblestones in London had been oddly removed from the rest of him. He’d actually fallen a couple of times in London, not because he couldn’t feel the ground but because he had tried too hard to rely on the sound of his cane to tell him the depth of things like cracks and steps.

Now, although the sense of being wrapped in cotton persisted, he felt even more cut off from the world because he was really two people. He couldn’t attend to his own movements or speech while living in Jules’s head. Especially not when Jules was so distant from the world. His whole spirit seemed caught up in confusion and fear. So although Joel and Jules sometimes lived in each other’s heads for brief moments, there had never been such a fundamental separation from physical reality.

Dimly, he could feel a hand caressing his face. He tried to reach up and catch those fingers, but his arms felt like they weighed a hundred pounds. He attempted another connection with Jules, one that would allow him to communicate more than just his confusion and to feel Jules’s sense of dislocation. That, too, failed.

Someone spoke then, their voice cutting through the fog. “Joel.” It was James, the dragon guarding him. “Joel, come back. Follow me if you’re turned around.”

He clung to those words and finally managed, by trailing after them in the psychic world, to reestablish himself in the realm of touch, hearing, and scent.

The person caressing his face paused and Parisa asked, “Can you hear me, Joel?”

“Yes,” he croaked, his throat dry.

“Drink,” she answered, and he opened his mouth, unsure if he would feel a glass against his lips or her cupped hand. He registered the water as cool and drank as palmfuls were brought to his lips. From where he’d heard Parisa’s voice, he’d expected the water to come from another angle. Maybe Noah was actually giving him the refreshing liquid.

“James?” he asked between mouthfuls.

“He’s not here,” Parisa said, “although I heard him too. It was like he somehow tapped into a telepathy that could be carried to more than one person.”

“Are either of you hurt?” Joel asked.

“No,” Parisa answered after a moment. He wondered what caused the hesitation. Then she explained. “Noah is shell-shocked, I think. He’s --”

“I’m fine,” Noah said firmly. “Just… sorry about…”

Struggling to raise his head, Joel felt hands tighten on his shoulders. He fought down the instantaneous panic that clawed at his throat. “Unless there’s a reason for me to be lying on my back,” he said as gently as he could manage, “I’d rather sit up.”

The hands released him and as he sat up, crossing his legs, he felt Parisa’s breath on his shoulder blade. He was still naked. He shivered and instinctively pulled his legs up to shield his stomach and softer bits. He wasn’t afraid of Parisa or Noah, but he felt vulnerable. “What happened?”

“There was an explosion,” Noah said, and he did sound a little shocky because his voice trembled. “Over at the other house, we think.”

“Definitely not here,” Parisa put in. “Do either of you need a towel? There aren’t robes in here, and I don’t think we should leave the bathroom until we get the all-clear.”

So, that was why his bare butt was on tile. “Did you two carry me in here?”

Again, there was that momentary pause. Then Parisa said, “I helped Noah and carried you, yes.”

Their location made sense even if nothing else did. As far as Joel knew, the bathroom might be the only room in the smaller house without windows.

Not like the one that had blown inward, injuring Jules.

He shivered as that realization, sent by his twin, hit him. Jules didn’t actually know it had been a window, but he’d had glass taken out of his arm so he’d made an educated guess. Joel said, “Soon as we can, I need to get to Jules. Something’s seriously wrong with him.”

“Can you feel him?” Parisa asked, her hand warm on his back.

“Not now but…” He shivered again, unable to help himself. “He was muffled, or that’s what it felt like. Like having your head wrapped in a blanket.”

Noah began, “Did he --”

Someone interrupted, throwing open the door. “Here they are,” said James, his voice tight.

“Good,” said a voice that came out slightly tinny. “Help is on the way but it’s a good hour out. See if you can move them to this building.”

“Will do.” James crouched, his voice coming from off to Joel’s right. “Are any of you hurt?”

Joel shook his head. “I’m fine. It didn’t happen here.” He reached out toward James’s voice, but Parisa caught his hand.

“Agent Tavery,” she said softly, “you’re bleeding.”

Consortium of Dragons Teaser #rabtbooktours

LGBTQ, Shapeshifters, Polyamorous

Date Published: September 12, 2025

Two dragons are pulled into a murder mystery when their lover is targeted.

The blind grandson of the world’s most powerful dragon matriarch wants a male and female dragon in his bed. He’s bold enough to get what he wants. Unfortunately, so is the serial killer hunting his family.

A male-female land dragon couple long for their matriarchal society to be equal across the board. As they fight for their needs, they meet the water dragon who will change their lives.

Now a serial killer has these three in his sights.

EXCERPT

There had been another death, this one of a female dragon Joel had never heard of. She was a distant relative, though, a water dragon who lived in Central America, trying to stay under the radar, as it were, by thriving in the coastal waters of Costa Rica. Or at least she had been thriving. Lady Claudette had called to warn their mother to keep Joel and Jules close. “Rumor has it this monster is on the move north again.”

Joel Junior, whose name was pronounced in the Spanish style, Ho-el, hadn’t actually meant to disregard his grandmother’s orders, but his twin, Jules, was out swimming and Joel didn’t want anything to happen to him. Jules was an impulsive dragon, and he would have probably gone swimming even if he’d been there to hear the phone call.

With Jules most likely already in the water, Joel couldn’t use his sense of smell to find his twin. Instead, because Jules wouldn’t give a crap about a telepathic sending -- wouldn’t bother to reply, in other words -- Joel stripped on the Alaskan shore, shivering slightly even though it was May and the ice here had largely melted. He assumed his scaly form, all eight feet of sapphire-blue scales, and walked into the water. For humans, he understood, this would have been a Polar Swim despite the fifty-degree weather, but for him, it felt like coming home. Eyes open but blind, he submerged completely and used his other sense, the one honed by years of blindness and necessity, and sought his brother’s large presence in the water. It was almost like sonar, but not quite, being a combination of sound and psychic sense.

He encountered a pod of orcas closer in to shore than usual. He knew them to be members of the dolphin family rather than narwhals because of the amount of water they displaced. Orcas were almost twice the typical narwhal’s length. Now using his telepathy because the sea mammals disrupted his ability to “listen” to the water beyond them, he reached beyond them to see what had driven them toward the land. Orcas weren’t afraid of much.

He found his brother and another dragon devouring a school of fish. He swam toward them, giving the pod a wide margin even though he wasn’t a threat to them. Either the orcas could sense the dragons’ magic or they knew something the dragons didn’t know about the deeper water. With the enigmatic and relatively new interlopers into the Alaskan waters, it was hard to tell. Unlike narwhals, which had shifters among their numbers, Joel didn’t know if that was true of any other sea-going mammal.

He approached and recognized the shape of his brother’s mind. He sent out a blast of sound, a snort through his nose, and realized the other dragon, whom he’d taken for their friend Jean Pierre, was a female dragon. His brother wasn’t hunting, then, or not just hunting. Like Joel himself, Jules was bisexual, although he mostly flirted only with female dragons.

Jules snorted back at him and flicked his tail, stunning several fish. These he gobbled up before heading farther out into the bay. The female dragon went with him.

Joel vaguely recognized her as a distant cousin and wondered at his initial assessment. Water dragons weren’t exactly inbred, but they were connected by strong ties that meant they couldn’t lightly date those who might even bear a strand of similar DNA.

Deciding his brother wouldn’t listen just now, and telling himself no dragon had yet been accosted while in the water, he used his sense of the current to lead him back toward land.

Surfacing, he shifted back to human and walked out of the Arctic Ocean. If any human had seen him, doubtless they would have screamed, or run to get him a blanket. But there were no humans here in this part of Alaska. Sparsely populated as the state was, this little cove and the land that touched it was private property, where no one except the sons of Lady Nicole and all the servants played. Joel’s and Jules’s grandmother hadn’t even been here, afraid as she was that whoever was killing members of her family would find their way here.

Joel used to wonder if she thought he and his twin, nearly seventy years old, couldn’t take care of themselves. Yes, they were blind, but, no, that didn’t make them helpless. The two of them hadn’t been permitted to leave the area around the palace for over a dozen years.

He made his way to the large rock where he’d left his white cane. But when he was a stone’s throw from the place he always used to hold his clothes and cane, he sensed someone there. He paused, listening. He heard nothing. He reached out telepathically and found a shielded mind that he didn’t recognize.

“You’re Joel,” the stranger with an American accent said, although he pronounced Joel’s name correctly.

Wary, Joel took a step back. Despite his bravado of a moment ago, he was anxious. This male dragon was a stranger to him.

Male dragon? He processed that knowledge, realizing he’d gained as much from scent as psychic feel. “Who are you?”

“I guess I’m your uncle.”

That didn’t comfort Joel, not in the slightest. “What are you doing here?” Was someone in their family killing other dragons? He’d heard stories of dragons who ate others of their kind.

He tried to calm himself. If this was indeed the one stalking his family, he sounded awfully casual. Not at all like a serial killer, in other words. Although, beyond reading braille books and listening to the television crime shows, how would Joel know what a mass murderer sounded like?

“I’m trying to decide if I’m really the best person to be guarding you and your brother.” He shifted on the rock, the sound of denim scraping against granite making Joel take a second step back.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Taking out my cell phone. It’s time I let your mother know her defenses were easier to breach than she thinks.”

Joel gained his eight feet of height, putting on his scales. If this was the one who’d been threatening his family, the last thing Joel wanted to do was present him with an easy target. He channeled all his telepathic ability into a single word and sent it to Jules. Danger. Then he settled himself for hand-to-hand fighting.

“Why are you…” The other male dragon sounded flummoxed. “I’m not a threat to you. I’m here to protect you.”

Excerpt

Moving ahead of his family so he could open the tall door designed to look like an ace of hearts, Heathcliff smiled. “We’re D’Vaires. If we aren’t weird, we’ll get kicked out of the mansion.”

“That’s definitely not how that works,” Scheredin muttered.

Laughing, Heathcliff waited for everyone to walk into the bar. His chuckles died the second he followed them inside. Thanks to his elven ancestors, he’d lacked sexuality until that moment. To Heathcliff’s horror, his cock tented his trousers, and the sharp spicy scent of pink peppercorns consumed his senses.

Somewhere in the bar was his mate. Desperate to find him or her, Heathcliff looked around. His gaze unerringly landed on a man with shocked blue eyes and brown hair glowing a little red in the bar’s moody lighting. Heathcliff’s phoenix screeched with delight and a desire to know everything about the ignis mage staring at them.

“Heath, what’s wrong?” Kieran asked.

Too busy staring at the man, Heathcliff barely heard his brother’s question. His mate was in dark pants paired with a black-and-white shirt with giant red hearts down the right side.

“Wrong?” Heathcliff repeated dumbly as he edged farther toward the mage. Although he wanted to run to the man Fate had given him, Heathcliff needed his body to calm first. The last thing he wanted to do was point his erection at his other half as they spoke. It was mortifying to have no control over his hormones, but Heathcliff understood the overwhelming attraction.

The sorcerer was pretty with his nearly pouty lips and the slight upturn of his nose. He’d enhanced his dark lashes and added a bit of liner to give his eyes a smoky look that suited a man born to manipulate fire.

“Heathcliff, why the fuck are you still standing near the door? What’s wrong?” Kieran demanded.

With some blood finally returning to his brain, Heathcliff blinked heavily and glanced briefly at a concerned Kieran.

“Ignis mage,” Heathcliff said. “Do you see him?”

“Tall hot guy with blue eyes?” Scheredin asked.

“Tall is relative, I guess,” Kieran murmured.

“Yeah, yeah,” Brexton retorted. “Our people are short. So, I’d guess the mage is maybe eight or nine inches over five feet. Tall to us. Not to the towering phoenix shifters with us. Anyway, what about the mage, Heath?”

“He’s my mate,” Heathcliff answered, though the reality of the situation was far from settling in.

Kieran cheered and the other three clapped, which drew the attention of everyone in the bar. The guests were family, so questions would be asked later, but Heathcliff didn’t care. His lone concern was learning more about the mage.

“Let’s go introduce ourselves,” Scheredin insisted as he led the charge toward the startled sorcerer with Kieran in tow.

To spare the man from being interrogated, Heathcliff followed his family, and his phoenix grew calmer the closer he stepped to the ignis mage. As astonishing and frightening as it was to find the other half of his soul, his beast’s instincts were already screaming for him to claim the man with a bite.

“Hi, I’m Scher, what’s your name?” Scheredin asked.

The ignis mage swallowed thickly and kept his blue gaze locked on Heathcliff’s face. “Hi. Yes, hello. Um, my name is Brinley.”

Heathcliff was desperate to touch him, so he stuck his hand out to shake. “Hi, Brinley. I’m Heath.”

“Brynewielm Duke Heathcliff D’Vairefenix,” Kieran muttered.

“Oh, nice to meet you, Your Grace,” Brinley said as he slid his elegant hand into Heathcliff’s. The touch of his mate soothed Heathcliff, and his anxiety dropped by several notches as he smiled at Brinley. The ignis mage offered him an enchanting grin.

It sucked to pull his arm away, but it would’ve been weirder to hold on to Brinley forever, despite Heathcliff’s phoenix begging him to do just that. Heathcliff introduced the rest of their group, and Brinley greeted them, but his captivating gaze kept returning to Heathcliff. He’d take that as an excellent sign.

“I know you’re working now, but maybe we could talk later?” Heathcliff asked, almost pissed at himself for nearly rushing upstairs to read a book. If Scheredin hadn’t talked him into staying out for an hour, he would’ve missed meeting Brinley.

“I’d like that very much, Your Grace,” Brinley said, pulling out his phone and giving Heathcliff his number.

“Please call me Heath.”

Brinley cocked his head. “Aren’t you going to give me your number?”

“Yeah, sorry, I swear I’m usually not scatterbrained, but I’m overwhelmed. I wasn’t expecting to meet you.”

“It definitely hasn’t sunk in for me that I’m standing here talking to my mate right now.”

“I nearly missed you,” Heathcliff confided, then gave Brinley his number.

“Yeah, my brother is desperate to read a new book and wanted to ditch us,” Kieran said.

“I can handle this on my own, thank you,” Heathcliff told Kieran.

Excerpt

Grand Warlock Dra’Kaedan D’Vaire narrowed his navy eyes at his other half and crossed his arms. The dragon shifter was up to something. Brogan had used his best manners all day and hadn’t exploded once about safety, which was odd. No matter how often they left their remote estate, Brogan lectured everyone about rules and warned against potential bizarre situations that existed only in the man’s mind.

Dra’Kaedan waited for Brogan to toss the last of his things into his suitcase and close it.

“What are you up to?” Dra’Kaedan demanded. Subtlety wasn’t his style.

Brogan set the bag on the floor and glanced at Dra’Kaedan with fake innocence on his handsome face.

“Huh?” Brogan replied.

“Why are you being weird?”

“We’re D’Vaires. We’re always weird.”

“D’Vaire weird is a good weird, and you’re being a bad way strange.”

Bending down to account for the fact that more than a foot of height separated them, Brogan kissed Dra’Kaedan’s cheek.

“I’m in a good mood, baby. We’re off to have a fun family weekend at a new resort. What’s odd about that?”

“Well, usually you’d be running around with that crease between your brows and repeating yourself all day as you lecture us on safety. Instead, you’ve been polite. You’ve smiled. Your eye didn’t even twitch when Rorie went through his list of plans at breakfast this morning. So, what’s up?”

Protector Rorietheil D’Vaire of the Fae was mated to Dra’Kaedan’s familiar, Renny, and Rorie was a whirlwind of energy. The fairy’s complete lack of fear usually sent Brogan into a tizzy when they were leaving the estate. But Brogan hadn’t said a word while Rorie had excitedly discussed gambling, shopping, and venturing through every inch of the new resort.

“We’ll be in a dragon-owned resort; what could go wrong?” Brogan asked. “Are you ready to go? Everyone else is probably already in the living room waiting for you to teleport us to Vegas.”

“What could go wrong? Are you honestly asking me that question? You’re the one who comes up with the crazy ideas about rogue assassins, natural disasters, and strange shit that will never happen.”

Brogan settled his hands on Dra’Kaedan’s shoulders. “Maybe I’m looking forward to having a great weekend with you.”

Those words caused the little hairs at Dra’Kaedan’s nape to stand up. “Bullshit.”

“Why are you so suspicious?”

“Because Elf arranged for Rafe and Aleksander to have a date tonight in the new swanky restaurant he designed.”

“I think that was sweet of Elf, and I can’t wait to see the hotel. It’s Vegas themed. I know they wanted to surprise us, but I went on the website and looked at the pictures. They named it Deck of Cards. Whole place is based on playing cards, which is cool. The restaurant is also an ode to dragon royalty and is called the King of Clubs. How awesomesauce is it that the High Kings will be one of the first couples dining there?”

“Okay, not going to lie, that’s incredible. But why aren’t you freaking out that Aleksander and Rafe will be in a restaurant without you?”

Brogan smiled, but it was wobbly and didn’t reach his dark blue scaly eyes. “Why would I freak out?”

“You aren’t planning on doing anything stupid, are you?”

“When have I ever done anything stupid?”

Dra’Kaedan couldn’t help it, he laughed at the man he adored more than everything else in the world. “Do you really want me to list all the stupid things you’ve said or done since the day we met?”

“It’s not that long of a list,” Brogan grumbled, his navy gaze downcast.

“Sure, whatever you say. Now, tell me what you’re up to tonight.”

“Well, you and I should probably eat dinner somewhere.”

“We aren’t eating in the King of Clubs.”

The grin fell from Brogan’s face, and his lips thinned in annoyance. “Why not? It’s got a great menu. Elf and Chrys had Henry hire the chef.”

Henry Gennevios was part of their large extended family and a renowned chef. But that was hardly enough to sway Dra’Kaedan to show up and ruin Rafe and Aleksander’s night.

“Because we aren’t crashing Aleksander and Rafe’s date.”

“Double dates are a normal thing, Dra’Kaedan.”

“Yeah, if one couple invites the other. Did Rafe or Aleksander suggest we join them for dinner?”

Brogan’s hands slipped from Dra’Kaedan’s arms, and he stepped away to fiddle with his already-packed suitcase. “Not exactly.”

“Not exactly, or not at all?”

“I’m sure they won’t mind.”

Earth's Passion Pre-Order Blitz #rabtbooktours

LGBTQ, Dark Fantasy, Steamy

Date Published: April 18, 2025

As their need for each other grows, so does the danger.

Kailee and Tom are falling for each other, but their secrets continue to come between them. Kailee’s afraid to show her physical scars, while Tom dreads his lover will discover the power those he still calls Master and Mistress hold over him.

Dragon and werewolf must join together in every way to defeat those who would dominate Tom and kill Kailee.

The following excerpt contains material suitable only for readers 18+.

EXCERPT

Kailee had been lying next to Tom for close to twenty minutes. Her new dragon lover was fast asleep, and she knew she should be resting too. Instead, she was filled with joy and an incautious sense of promise that she hadn’t felt in years.

Tom rolled over, draping his arm over her waist. Kailee wriggled a little as the urge to pee made itself known. A deeper craving drew at her also.

“Are you okay?” Tom mumbled. Then he stiffened. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to…” He pulled his arm off her.

She turned over, snuggling in close. “I like it when you touch me. I just… I need to get up and use the bathroom.” It was true, but her ulterior motive was to take so long that he fell back to sleep, and she could go outside.

“I’ll wait up for you,” he said, slurring his words a little.

Kailee kissed his temple. “Go to sleep. I’ll be back in a moment.”

His eyes were already closed. As she watched, he lost the tension in his limbs and the worry lines on his face smoothed out. He began to snore.

She waited another five minutes, to make sure he was well and truly under. He’d had a sucky, hard life and she thought he hadn’t probably slept well for large parts of it. Knowing he was safe here, that she would protect him, made her smile.

She got up, padding to the bathroom after putting on the clothes she’d worn before they made love. Once in the bathroom, she unzipped her jeans. As much as she felt one hundred percent female most of the time, she still enjoyed the simple pleasure of peeing while standing up.

When she was finished, she flushed, zipped up, and washed her hands. Then, moving silently, not wanting to wake anyone up because this pack already knew everyone else’s business as it was, she went to the mudroom, put on her boots, and made her way out of the back door into the gloriously dark night. It was a waxing crescent moon tonight, about four days from the first quarter, and with so little light coming from that celestial orb, the darkness was close as a passionate lover, full of kindness. Like Tom.

She wrapped her arms around her chest, which was flat without the boobs she usually wore. That felt a little awkward but for this one moment, she was able to dismiss the feeling. She’d needed to embrace herself for pure joy’s sake. She’d been so very alone for damn near half her life, relying on gentleness and understanding from those who were either hired professionals or simply much older than she was and thus not quite as in touch with their wolflinghood as she could have wished. Maybe it was foolish to assume someone closer to her own age would have “gotten it,” her experiences and suffering. Still, because Tom understood, and only after so short a time, she thought the idea had slight merit.

Wanting to make some sort of noise to express herself, she began to sing. It was a simple song in Werewelsh, her first language. She’d grown up surrounded by the language developed by werewolves for their own kind, and although other people spoke it now, it remained mostly shared among the ones who had to change at the full moon. Werewolves largely did, though, and she was, first and foremost, a wolf.

She translated in her head as she sang, loving the poetry even though it didn’t rhyme in English.

Moon of darkness, moon of light,

Moon of power and strength.

Moon of my heart, full and wise,

Be with me tonight.

Probably, she thought as her joy crested but didn’t recede, I’m being foolish. He hasn’t even said he loves me.

That was true but what made her heart sing was a simple truth, not complicated by whether Tom wanted to be her mate or not. “In all honesty,” she whispered to the night that seemed to be listening, “I never thought anyone could see past my scars and love me anyway.”

All right, so he hadn’t actually seen her physical scars, her dead name carved into her chest with a silver knife and made to stay because of silver powder. She hadn’t been quite that brave. Still, Tom knew she had a reputation, that she’d killed, and he hadn’t pulled away. Wasn’t that worthy of ecstasy?

She closed her eyes and resumed her singing. Now she sang a song of how the sky so loved the moon that he bid her to cross from one edge to the other so he might admire her beauty. The moon’s response Kailee sang too, reveling in the way the moon demanded something in return: to see the stars scattered before her like diamonds.

Once again, her joy crested until it filled her chest. She broke out in a light sweat. That was when she became aware that the exhilaration she felt wasn’t hers alone.

Wary because she’d been influenced by outsider forces before, although less directly or psychically, she mounted her defenses and scanned the area with her telepathy, seeking the source of the external, pushy force.

At first, she felt nothing and no one. Widening her circle of ability, she fumbled in the darkness of the in-between that existed in the psychic world. Reaching, reaching, she felt a half-familiar mind.

When werewolf and dragon meet, will their need for each other defeat all their well-intentioned plans?

Tom, a land dragon, is so large he’s earned the nickname “Earth.” His dragon herd takes advantage of him until he’s sold to a pair of basilisks. Unfortunately for them, Tom’s mating plans don’t include repopulating the basilisk species. Time to make his escape…

Kailee, psychic disaster and frightened “rehabilitated” werewolf, is new to adulting, but she’s been through enough to make her a force to be reckoned with. Transgender, she is burdened with not one, but three psychic abilities. The overabundance of power tends to make her a little off-balance…

Will Kailee be able to protect Tom from those hunting him? Can Tom learn to trust? Or will their need for each other defeat all their well-intentioned plans?

EXCERPT

Tom fled through the forest, staying low to the ground, or as low as a person who stood over six feet could manage without crawling. He needed to keep his feet because --

He flashed back to when the matriarch had cut off his left foot to keep him from escaping again. It had grown back, of course. He was a dragon. Still, it had hurt, and he sometimes woke in the middle of the night with phantom pain reminding him how he’d suffered.

He didn’t have a very good sense of direction, but it was a sunny day, early in the morning, and the sun came up in the east. So, just as long as he kept the sun on his left, he’d assumed he’d be generally heading south. Out of Canada. He’d grown up here but all he knew about the country where he’d been imprisoned was that it was north of the United States.

He was grateful his shedding was over for another six months. His escape would have been impossible while he was struggling through the twice-a-year loss of his scales.

He heard other dragons flying above him and huddled against a tree, hoping the darkness of his skin would blend with the shadows. He wasn’t exactly dressed for a late December winter when the temperatures around Nova Scotia lingered just above freezing most days. He wouldn’t freeze to death… probably. As long as he kept moving, he’d be all right. Just now, though, stillness was required. He shut his eyes, fearing that his anxiety had turned his irises yellow-green. They might be spotted by someone with a searchlight.

He wondered briefly if the female dragons had employed some of their males to help. Most of the males were treated better than he was, although not equal to the females. The large majority would do as they were told because they weren’t required to stand stud all year, just when the females wanted them.

Probably most of the other male dragons were grateful for his existence. He was an anomaly, but one that the females liked. Bigger and stronger than any other dragon he’d ever met, he’d been conditioned since birth. He’d been born larger and the hopes for his future progeny had been high. Hell, they were still high even though only about one third of the dragons he sired were of greater size when they were born. He’d only been at this enslavement stud service for a year and a half, so none of his children were more than a year old.

It was as if, when the dragons and werewolves had split off from their basilisk parentage, they’d been cursed to all stand at the exact same height in either human guise or scaly form. Five feet, ten inches was the height of almost every other dragon he’d heard of when they walked on two feet. With their talons and tails, they stood eight feet tall.

Tom was six-two sometimes, and others, he was ten feet tall. Being larger than most dragons should have been an advantage. Having increased strength could have helped if there weren’t so many damn males and females alike ready to take him down.

The sounds overhead faded and he hesitated, not wanting to leave his hiding place. Yet, what good would it do him to stay here? They’d send out hunters on foot if necessary.

So, biting his lips almost hard enough to draw blood, he crept away from the tree and started running again. He skirted around a meadow and kept going, adrenaline making him thirsty even as it lent his muscles endurance.

The sun had been up for an hour before he judged it safe to stop and drink. He’d been hearing a river nearby for about the last ten minutes and that burbling, overly cheery sound made him long for water.

He broke from the game trail he’d been following and found an offshoot that led in the correct direction. When he came upon the river, he was relieved to see a rocky bank where he could get right down close to the water and drink his fill.

He crawled to the edge of the river, listening hard. He heard nothing except the twittering of birds and the chittering of squirrels. Well, and the rushing of the water, of course. It was a deep stream, not quite the river he’d been envisioning based on the amount of noise it was making. He slipped his hands into the icy cold water.

Hands seized him roughly by his hair.

Without thought, he shifted to his scaly form to lose that grip. His clothes, rags now, fell away as he tried for the sky.

Three dragons, brown and orange, like him, male, like him, each two feet smaller, crashed into him. From below came a howl of triumph and something sharp sliced through his wing’s membrane.

He screamed as he fell.

Blurb

Victor Antonov-Daray is a lucky man. Thanks to his impetuous decision to apply for a job he didn’t qualify for, his life changed forever. In the decades since, Victor has gained experience, poise, and a found family. The Darays anchor his world.

Every twelve months, new fallen knights are resurrected. Keegan Hayes considers himself fortunate to be among them. As a recruit, he is eager to train and study. Shortly after classes begin, Keegan discovers there is a shifter sentinel struggling to adjust to his resurrection. Keegan insists on meeting him.

No sentinel likes to stick out, but Phillip Osdraconis has no choice. His dragon will not allow him to rest. It takes sorcery to force the beast into submission. His precarious start means he is not ready for the courses necessary to prepare him for his future duties.

Phillip refuses to accept his fate idly. He is determined to forge a bond with his dragon, read his textbooks, and spar with his brethren. To his surprise, visitors arrive at his dorm door to greet him. One of them is his mate, Keegan.

Although they are pleased to be paired, their relationship is awkward. That is, until Phillip and Keegan are invited to dine with the Darays and they meet the missing part of their soul, Victor.

Now the three men must navigate the perilous road of a triple matebond. They do it willingly and with complete determination. Victor, Keegan, and Phillip soon learn everything is easier with love.

Excerpt

“Kisses?” Keegan asked.

“Phillip, come and sit between Keegan and me,” Victor ordered. “You’ll kiss him first.”

“Somebody better kiss me soon,” Keegan muttered as he rubbed his hands on his uniform pants.

“Tell Spicy to get a move on,” Victor said. “You guys met first. It makes sense you’d be the ones to kiss first. And we already know I’m more stubborn than an entire household of sentinels, so there’s no use arguing with me.”

“May I kiss you after Keegan?” Phillip asked.

Victor smiled, and there was no hesitation in his eyes. “I’d like that.”

Although Phillip was nervous, his dragon didn’t suffer from any anxiety. He wanted their mates, and nothing was going to stop him. Thankfully, the sentinel side of him was also eager to experiment. Doing what he’d wanted since he’d first met Keegan, Phillip stood and stepped closer to the sofa. Instead of sitting, Phillip carefully reached out and cupped Keegan’s handsome face in his palms.

Keegan’s expression was solemn, but Phillip detected no hesitation in the fallen knight. Slow enough to allow Keegan to pull away if he suddenly changed his mind, Phillip leaned toward him and settled his mouth atop Keegan’s. His mate’s lips trembled apart, and Phillip’s dragon roared loudly. A surge of desire and protectiveness swept through Phillip as he dipped his tongue in to taste Keegan.

Phillip had taken a great deal of time to think about what it would be like to kiss either of the men Fate had granted him, but his imagination was sadly lacking. Although he’d known Keegan was his and Victor’s sunshine, kissing him was as if the heat of the sun burned through him, setting him ablaze.

His cock grew hard, but Phillip ignored it. Someday, he’d have the opportunity to make love to both Keegan and Victor, but it wouldn’t be tonight. Thankfully, it was impossible to feel any disappointment thanks to the lovely mixture of desire, comfort, and affection growing inside him and his dragon for their mates.

Keegan squeezed Phillip’s forearms, and it was a testament to how rattled the fallen knight had made him that he couldn’t recall the moment his other half had touched him. It was tempting to haul Keegan upward and pull their bodies flush together. His dragon growled with approval at the thought. Which was why Phillip pulled away and ended the delightful caress.

“Thank you,” Keegan whispered, his brown eyes full of wonder and yearning. “Go kiss Victor like that and change his life the way you just rocked mine.”

Phillip gave in to the temptation to ruffle his fingers through Keegan’s thick red waves as he enjoyed the scent of sunflowers flooding his system. “Is it I who should thank you. Would you prefer to kiss Victor first?”

“No, I want to watch,” Keegan insisted.

Phillip straightened and glanced at Victor. The cat shifter was watching them with fervent interest written all over his stunning face. To his shock, Keegan slapped Phillip’s ass as he took a step closer to where Victor was perched on the couch.

“Sorry, I’ve wanted to do that forever,” Keegan said.

“Good, me too,” Victor replied. “But don’t apologize for it.”

“He has a habit of apologizing too often,” Phillip remarked.

“We’ll work on it with him,” Victor promised, then he surged upward and grabbed Phillip’s jaw in his hands. He sealed their mouths together, and his tongue met Phillip’s. Unlike Keegan’s sweet sunshine, Victor was like the sparkles he loved—bright and glimmering. But he smoldered too. Their kiss was deep and rich, like the heady smell of a perfectly roasted cup of coffee. Phillip’s dragon adored the aggressive way Victor took charge, but the sentinel side of him was far too competitive to give in easily.

It was a battle. A delicious one Phillip knew he’d crave for eternity.

His erection throbbed, and Phillip nearly touched himself when finally Victor released him.

“Are you guys sure I can’t strip?” Keegan asked.

He whimpered a second later as Victor fused their lips. Phillip watched with slack-jawed interest as his mates kissed. Once again, a roar resonated through the recesses of his mind and soul. This one was the loudest of the night. Astonishingly, Phillip didn’t need to be touching his mates to grow more aroused.

Keegan slumped against the sofa as Victor pulled away.

“I can’t wait to dream about that later,” Keegan murmured.

“Phillip, take your daggers off and sit between Keegan and I so we can cuddle for a bit,” Victor requested.

Happy to oblige, Phillip tore his daggers from his sides and slapped them onto the coffee table. His ass barely hit the cushions, and two men snuggled close. Phillip smiled as his dragon’s sounds of contentment rumbled through him. He wrapped an arm around Keegan and his other around Victor as he drank in the lovely feeling of being near them.
