Insecure Writers Support Group 7 January 2026

January 7 question - Is there anything in your writing plans for 2026 that you are going to do that you couldn't get done in 2025?

Yes. Wow, that was quick! Have a nice day.

I can't go yet, though. I started a battle with a winter Wignow in 4TheWords, so I still need to come up with 400 more words.

I don't feel like pretending I know what I'm doing, so instead I will share some anthology opportunities with you.

Dragon Soul Press has new anthology opportunities every month.

It's free to submit your work to Dragon Soul Press. They are very professional and always respond to submissions, so you'll never be left hanging wondering if your story was accepted.

I am planning to submit to First Coast Romance Writers two proposed anthologies.

Proceeds earned from the anthologies help pay for FCRW's workshops.

I am also planning to write a story to submit to Passionate Ink's annual anthology. If you like to write spicy, consider getting involved. This year's theme is friends to lovers.

You need to be a member of Passionate Ink to submit to the anthology. Dues are $45 per year. Membership includes access to writing sprints and workshops.

Proceeds earned from the anthology benefit Pro Literacy.

I think I will be able to get back on track this year although nothing will ever be the same. My mother died last February. Her passing wasn't a surprise although the fact that she had colon cancer was. She was a retired nurse. She had been having GI problems for quite some time. I think she may have suspected but didn't want to pursue chemotherapy. Her cognition was worsening. She suffered from a major occipital lobe stroke and died three days later in hospice.

I didn't cry much following my mother's death, but my insomnia went off the rails and I started having a lot of trouble completing projects. When I did the math, I saw that I was still writing about the same amount as I ever did, I just couldn't seem to finish anything. I had brain fog and a whole lot of guilt.

I always seemed to be a disappointment to my parents. They were very critical of my artistic pursuits. But while my mother was in hospice,  I learned from her friend and neighbor that she said she was proud of me for pursuing my writing. Go figure.

To sum things up, everything is up in the air, but I feel like I have more likelihood of the things I throw at the wall this year sticking. Will this be My Big Year? Probably not, I've given up on that idea. But maybe it will be an okay year.
