May 6 question - What was the most inspiring feedback you received from readers, including agents, editors, and beta readers?
I honestly can't remember the last time I received what one might call "inspiring" feedback from anyone.
I will never have an agent because I don't pursue publication in that manner. I self-publish or submit my own work to small press anthologies.
An editor's role is not being a cheerleader, it's molding a story into a product that sells.
I really don't have any readers and don't expect I ever will. I'm pretty much nobody's cup of tea. That knowledge is a bitter pill, but I swallowed it along with a Fukitol, and now I'm determined to write what I want to write regardless of anyone else's opinion.Ornery Owl Has Spoken

I'm sorry you haven't gotten any positive feedback. Have you thought of joining a critique group? They'd read your writing and give you advice on what works and what you need to work on.
ReplyDeleteMy experience with critique groups has been the opposite of positive and encouraging. I find them to be cliquish and quick to tear down anyone who doesn't suit their particular mold.
DeleteSo be it. If it's fulfilling to you, that's what matters. Life is too short to fill with tedius things when there are opportunities to breathe.
ReplyDeleteAs I have vocal cord dysfunction, breathing is sometimes tricky too.
DeleteIf you can't write for yourself, why bother, right?
ReplyDeleteExactly.
DeleteGetting readers is very difficult. I’m sure I haven’t many readers either, even though I’m hybrid published and indie published. You go through all the launches and book stalls, and if you sell more than a couple of books, you’re cock-a-hoop.
ReplyDeleteKeep writing what you want to write. They say that if you write for one person, you’ll do better than if you try and please everybody.
Thanks, Rosemary. I agree.
DeleteI’ve had great results with the same pills. Truly liberating. 😉
ReplyDeleteFukitol is an essential!
