To Know Good and Evil Preorder Blitz #rabtbooktours

Book 2 in the Frank Adams Detective Series

Murder Mystery

Date Published: October 7, 2025

On a refreshingly cool summer evening in North Carolina, a hog farmer was stunned, then horrified when a light airplane crashed into his hog pens and erupted into flames.

The ensuing FAA investigation convinced the small town that the crash was an accident. Except for one person. Ted Grant was an academic colleague and good friend of Dr. David Lanmore', and Ted knew that Dr. Lanmore had just discovered a cure for cancer.

The last place Frank Adams wanted to investigate an airplane accident was in his hometown of Scottsville, North Carolina. Though his parents were no longer living, Clayton Housley, his uncle, wielded significant influence over the town and surrounding areas as if it were his own fiefdom.

But Ted Grant's call was urgent and disturbing. Apparently S&H Pharmaceuticals had discovered Dr. Lanmore's secret and would go to any lengths to acquire the research. But would they kill for it? And if Frank meddled in the town's business, would his life be in danger?

About the Author

It’s never too late to make my dreams come true. I was lucky to be born on the southern shores of the Mediterranean Sea, specifically in Alexandria. My summers were spent on the beach, enjoying the sunshine, the original surfboards/paddle boards, and the game of sand pickleball before it even made it to the US.

Not having TVs, I read many books, especially wartime ones, Ian Flemings’s early James Bond novels, John Le Carre, Agatha Christie, Maurice LeBlanc (Arsene Lupin), and other detective/mystery-type books. For school, we had to read all the French Classics. I was always intrigued by how the characters always managed to resolve their problems.

At the Age of 19, I came to California as a foreign student. After graduating with an engineering degree, I was able to obtain my permanent residency. I never looked back. My mother was able to join me, but unfortunately, my father passed away.

Once I graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree, I joined an International Engineering and Construction Company and spent all my working time with them. What was great is that the company moved me to many work projects around the world, where I spent an average of a couple of years on each. My wife joined me on some of these assignments.

But my love for writing was always with me. During my stay abroad, I wrote a philosophical book and many articles for local newspapers and the Laguna Beach weekly issues, comparing life in Laguna Beach with life in Indonesia. I wrote articles for the company’s monthly newsletter, as well as for other publications.

I recently decided to use a “nom de plume”/pseudonym for my writings. My real name is Jean-Pierre Zacaropoulos. Having a last name starting with a “Z” had me called upon in classes either as one of the last ones or one of the first one. It was always a guessing game. But usually having an A or B will push you to the top (Ha! Ha!). So I decided to choose a “B”

Now, I have a little bit more time, so I decided to make my long-time desire come true. I wrote my mystery/romance novel, which will be followed shortly after by a sequel.

Übermensch Book Blitz #rabtbooktours

Historical Fiction

Published: 1/15/2025

A murdered boy. Tortoiseshell eyeglasses. A letter written by a young man to another that reads like a lover's spat. One portable Underwood typewriter. Two confessions.

Will Babe and Manny live or die?

It's the early 1920s and arrogant teenagers Noah "Babe" Lieberman and Roman "Manny" Loewe have it all: money, brains, freedom. They reside in the same affluent Chicago neighborhood, come from successful, respectable families, and enjoy privileged lives. Both are intelligent prodigies who graduated high school early. But Roman, an extrovert, is handsome and popular whereas Noah is average-looking and spends most of his time with birds and books. After meeting, they embark on a wild journey of vandalism, burglary, and arson. Their personal relationship escalates, and their criminal acts morph into more sinister behavior as the two flout the laws of the "common" man and live their version of the Übermensch, or "superman" as defined by Friedrich Nietzsche.

One hundred years ago, the world was stunned to learn that Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, two wealthy, brilliant university students, had confessed to kidnapping and murdering fourteen-year-old Bobby Franks. Why did Leopold and Loeb do it? For "pure love of excitement, or the imaginary love of thrills, doing something different," they said.

D.L. Scarpe's Übermensch fictionalizes the Leopold and Loeb case, focusing on the reason why the gifted teenagers' lives took such an unexpected turn, destroyed three families, and captivated the country in what was dubbed at the time as the "crime of the century."

About the Author

D.L. Scarpe has always had stories rattling around inside her head, locked up tight, only set free on those endless childhood nights spent swapping tales with her best friend. The story-weaving continued into adulthood–her little secret. However, raising a family; managing a household; building retaining walls, patios, or fire pits from stones (rock “jigsaw puzzles”); refinishing oak floors and furniture; or helping her husband on a roof–although she tried to pay attention when on a roof–kept her too busy for that other side of her to come out. So, it remained a secret.

But kids grow up and bodies get too tired for physical labor, and now it’s time to pursue her own passions and dreams. Working on her bucket list, she picked three things that make her happy, and she’s pursuing them all with no apologies:

Writing.

Shoes.

Tattoos.

Readers Imbibing Peril Challenge 2024: The Bad Son

It would be appropriate to call this excellent 2007 crime drama based on true events The Bad Family. From the sleazy slum lord uncle to the bitchy controlling mother enmeshed in an emotionally incestuous co-dependent relationship with the titular Bad Son, these people turbo-suck. Lock 'em all up and throw away the key in the Crack of Doom.

Readers Imbibing Peril Challenge 2024: Baby Snatcher

David Duchovny had it easy in this excellent 1992 made-for-TV drama based on true events, as his character was also named David. Movie David was a bit of an immature wanker who wanted to screw around with his secretary, Karen, but took minimal responsibility when she got pregnant.

One simple rule: if you wouldn't make her your wife, don't make her a mother.

Movie David wasn't the titular Baby Snatcher. That dishonorable mention goes to Bianca, who pretends to be pregnant to keep her husband from divorcing her. She then poses as a potential nanny and runs off with Karen's baby while Karen's mother is distracted.

The FBI agent is a major asshole, as is one slimy slug of a reporter, both accusing Karen of murdering her child with no proof. The only time I really liked Movie David was when he was going for the FBI agent's throat, and I liked Karen even more when she kicked Slimy Slug Reporter out of her house.

This drama is filled with excellent performances. The cast really worked well together. If you enjoy movies based on true events, you'll like this one.

It's hard to imagine that a physician we think we know well could have an obscure dark side. We have the affirmation of our family and friends that our physician is trustworthy, competent, and our advocate. This riveting novel dares to ask: What evil can a physician inflict behind the exam room door?

New obstetric residency graduate Dr. Faith Pernitelli is settling into her career when a fellow provider is accused of taking advantage of his position. After she divulges her patients’ stories, Pernitelli discovers that doing the right thing for victims isn’t as straightforward or well received as she expects. Moreover, her Asperger’s diagnosis, which once served as a gift to her profession, is now a curse that threatens everything—including her reputation.

As relationships change during stormy efforts to do the right thing, Pernitelli must decide if fighting for the truth is worth the lies with which her adversaries retaliate. Who will stick with her when their lives are threatened in the crossfires of justice? The consequences of fighting for justice in a quiet New Mexico community are unfathomable in this intense medical thriller where powerful enemies hide the truth—no matter the human cost. The truth may not set you free after all in this riveting medical thriller from a seasoned physician author.

He’s Greg Wager and he works at Travel World. We’re also inviting Beth and Tara. If you see them tell them I want them to meet me at the pond.” Sheryl nodded in agreement.

Ashley shut the door and grabbed her cell phone to call her other two sisters to invite them. She called Tara but had to leave a message about the camping trip because no one answered.

When Ashley called Beth and told her about the trip Beth immediately became excited and accepted the invitation.

While they still spoke on the phone Beth Forester took out her suitcase and opened the top. The trip would be in two days and time always seemed to go by fast for her. She packed two bags of food and got a fishing pole out of the garage.

“Don’t worry about anything but driving yourself to the camp site. I’ll bring all the food and after we get off the phone I’ll make everyone’s reservations for them.” As soon as the camping reservations were made Tara called Ashley back and she also accepted the trip invitation.

Ashley spent at least an hour on the phone that evening. Deanna came back into the living room when Sheryl left and then Ashley called lawyer Veronica Cane to make an appointment. She asked for advice, “Can she sue him to get the money back?”
