When you’re surrounded by lust, an awakening of desire is inevitable.

Blurb

Candi knew hot things happened behind closed doors at the Pearl Beach Resort. After all, the place was owned by bisexual billionaire playboy Boris van Donk, who had a reputation for taking on all comers.

Candi's family of origin was strictly religious, and she has never given or received more than a chaste kiss in her 21 years. Between bad-boy Boris and her geeky, fun-loving, porn-writing housemates, an awakening of her desires is inevitable.

About the Author:

Lil DeVille is a former nurse who started writing erotica after becoming disabled in 2019. She enjoys imagining quirky characters involved in lusty encounters anywhere from a tropical paradise or a rustic mountain village in the present day to an all-male mining colony on an asteroid in the distant future.

Lil likes to end her stories on a Happy for Now note with a promise of more good things to come. Although her writing sometimes addresses difficult subjects such as alcoholism or past abuse, she brings a note of love and support to scenes involving these issues.

Lil lives in a remote prairie town in Northeastern Colorado with her adult son and three cats. When she isn’t cooking up spicy stories, she enjoys baking and crafts.

The First Line/Book Beginnings

Two women and a man, all hospitality workers in their early twenties, sat in a remote spot on the soft pink sands of Pearl Beach Resort.

4th - 10th - What fictional character would you most like to meet in person? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I'm currently listening to the last book in Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Roland would probably find me a bit of a useless schmuck, but then again he was nice enough to the old folks he and his Ka-Tet met during their travels. I could probably win him over if I offered him a Tooter Fish popkin and a cup of coffee and gave him a bottle of Astin for his travels. Hell, I'd do him one better and share my CBD gummies with him.

And now for the special opportunity I mentioned at the beginning of the post. Writers, if you have books with LGBT characters, you'll want to consider participating as you can get a lot of eyes on your book. Readers, if you like stories with LGBT characters, you're sure to find something you'll enjoy. Many thanks to Kayelle Allen for sharing this info with the MFRW group.

Writers, if you aren't a member of the MFRW group, go check it out. It's free to join. I know it's Marketing for Romance Writers, but you don't have to write romance to sign up.

Anyway...

Here's a link to a one-day promo event that has an enormous reach potential. Queer Your Bookshelf (QYB) invites authors of gay romance to take part in this Sept 4, 2023 Labor Day weekend promo. No cost to join, other than to promote the event. Will be hundreds of authors, so this is a good chance to be seen. Pricing for that day must be no greater than 99c, so plan ahead. Read more details on the form itself. Recommended - join the QYB Facebook group (link in the form). A copy of your submission will be sent to you.

This link leads to a short Google form to fill out. https://bit.ly/45gCkws

FAQs

  1. Deadline to Submit
The deadline to submit a book is Sunday, August 20th.
  2. What counts as "queer"?
You, as the author, decides whether your book is queer. If you feel comfortable describing your book as queer, then it counts.
  3. Pairings Question
If the characters in your book don't fall within the listed gender pairings, please use the "Other" field to indicate their gender identities. Whatever you put in the field will be copied directly onto the website.
  4. $0.99 Pricing in All Markets
Books should be on sale in all countries as we're targeting authors and readers everywhere. Books should be $0.99 USD or equivalent in the sense of "lowest price point above free". For Canada, I would price at $0.99 CAD rather than whatever the exchange rate works out to be.
  5. International Pricing
This promotion is intended to be international since we have authors and readers outside the US & UK. You can use Kindle Countdown for the US & UK, but please also manually adjust prices for all markets a few days before the promo.
If anyone is unhappy about the lack of spaces between the paragraphs, tough. I copy-pasted the info from the MFRW message and I can't be arsed to figure out how to add spaces and keep the numbers sequential. When I tried to add spaces between the paragraphs, weird things happened. So it is how it is.

Tyler needs a break from work and seeks something more fulfilling, even if he has no idea what that is. When his mates plan the trip of a lifetime he decides to tag along. He’s sure it will get him out of his rut, and in turn, help him set a course for his future.

No one is prepared for the planning mishap that finds Makayla and Tyler sharing a room. They are opposites in just about every way and are definitely not interested in each other. Add a fouled mouthed cockatoo to the equation and the perfect trip is not so perfect. Or is it?

**This is a standalone romance with medium heat**

Excerpt

The four of us were ready to leave camp. Rosanna and Mak each had a towel and book ready to hit the beach to read. I was disappointed Mak wasn’t joining us. As we walked past them, I paused. I leant in to give her a kiss. My lips embraced hers, once, twice, tasting as much as I dared. She tasted good, like bacon and the sweet taste of Makayla.

I wanted her to know that although I was leaving there was a promise of my return and more kissing to come. Could all that be conveyed in one kiss?

“Enjoy your book,” I said as her eyes met mine.

“Thanks.” She gave me a small smile. Her complete attention was on me, like no one else existed. I wanted another kiss but that would be overkill. I walked away. I don’t know what possessed me to kiss her. Sure, I’d kissed plenty of women before. But nothing like that. Nothing meaningful.

The people making the footsteps behind me were silent. I knew each of them would have something to say but not one of them uttered a word. Not until we hopped into the four-wheel drive.

“What was that?” Manny asked from the front seat.

“What was what?”

“Don’t be difficult. That kiss.”

Nicki who sat next to me turned her face to mine, as did Harrison beside her.

“It was a kiss. No big deal.”

“Since when do you and Mak kiss?” Nicki stared at me like she was trying to decipher unexpected results from an experiment.

“Since we decided it was a fun thing to do.”

“In all the years I’ve known you, I have never seen you kiss someone like that,” Harrison said.

“Time to try something new.”

Nicki sat back and stared straight ahead. She clutched her hands in her lap. Then she looked at me again. “I hope you’re not playing her. Mak spent ten years with the wrong person. I don’t want to see her hurt because you think she’s a good experiment, or just something frivolous and fun.”

“That’s not what I meant.”

“What did you mean then?”

“Mak’s different to anyone I’ve ever met.”

“We’re all different to anyone you’ve ever met.”

Jeez she was a hard task master. I thought she was all for this with the way she and Rosanna acted. Maybe they were all for it until there was risk of Makayla getting hurt. A kiss wasn’t a promise of forever or even ten years. We weren’t putting our hearts out there, just our lips. Of course, it was just our lips…

I needed to show Nicki what I meant about Makayla being different.

“She can be so distant one moment, stubborn to a fault. And then she loses control. Something comes out and I see a glimpse of the person hiding beneath.” Were these words actually coming out of me? I sounded love struck…but I was nothing of the sort.

Message from the Author

A Bird in the Hand was a fun book to write. Along with my characters, I visited parts of Western Australia I have never been to and others I have explored before. Even though I visited them nearly twenty years ago, they still hold a place in my heart.

From the start, we could see the differences between Makayla and Tyler, even if they were subtle. I enjoyed watching them change over time, where their attitude changed from ‘no way’ to ‘this could be a thing’. It was their bravery and their patience with each other that allowed that to happen.

The cockatoo in the story, with a most unfortunate name, was based on a pet cockatoo when I was a child, Old Bugger. I also asked people to share their cockatoo stories with me and formed this foul-mouthed character. Cockatoos are very smart and CM’s colourful vocabulary certainly showed that.

I like to bring awareness to social issues in my novels. This time, I chose inequality and diversity. I only touch on these in the novel, but I hope it opens my minds of readers and perhaps begin important conversations.

Onyx and Opal Always and Forever Book Promo

Genre: Sweet Romance, Historical Romance, Interracial Romance

Heat Level: 🔥

Word Count: Approximately 5900 words

Blurb

When Elias Król competed in the El Paso Decathlon on an August day in 1978, he was proud to take first place. Little did he know the best prize wasn't his hard-won trophy; it was the bond he would form with the sweet young woman taking his order at the fried chicken booth.

Madison Sanders wasn't looking for love while working at her family's concession stand, but love was about to find her in the form of a lanky red-haired athlete.

This short and sweet interracial romance with a guaranteed Happy Ever After is part of a developing series but it can also stand on its own. With a very low heat rating and no profanity, it is appropriate for both teen and adult readers.

Excerpt

When asked on his fortieth wedding anniversary what had initially attracted him to his wife, Elias Król did not hesitate to say that it was her smile. The Yoakam native had just taken first place in the decathlon at the big all-state track and field competition. Now it was time for him to relax and celebrate.

The smell wafting from the food vendor carts drew Elias in. He didn’t want to eat too much too quickly after his 1500-meter sprint, but he thought it would be nice to have a cool drink to sip and a little something to nibble on. The lanky ginger’s body was full of adrenaline and a welcome breeze made him feel like he was riding high on a cool wave above the clouds.

As he crested the hill approaching the food vendors, Elias heard melodic laughter, and that was when he saw her. He knew that the fare from Shack’s Famous Chicken was killer, but it wasn’t the tantalizing scent of savory meat moving his feet towards the booth. It was the glorious ebony queen’s enticing smile and welcoming aura.

She was a big girl, and as such Elias knew that she’d experienced more than her fair share of bullying, but it didn’t stop her from dishing up happiness with every order she served. Her co-workers were a melancholy young man who the kind-hearted angel was making it her mission to cheer up and an eager chap who had Down syndrome. Everyone who stopped at the booth left with a smile.

“I probably shouldn’t be eating fried chicken, but what the heck?” Elias reasoned. “She’s all lovely laughter and licorice, and I want to be close to her, even if only for a moment.”

Cat's Paw Cove Book 24

by Sharon Buchbinder

Elva Boyd, an extroverted elf, uses bees and honey to treat patients in pain. Art Klarastos, an introverted demi-god, beekeeper, and inventor is her best friend. When Elva’s beehives disappear, Art beelines to her to deliver the news. Distressed, Elva pleads for his assistance with the mystery of the missing boxes. Kit Kat, his matchmaking talking cat, makes a deal with Elva: Art will help her in exchange for a real date.

Art is mortified, but Elva agrees without hesitation. While they attempt to deduce why someone might want to steal her bees’ homes, a couple arrives and claims to be Elva’s long-lost parents. An orphan raised in Cat’s Paw Cove by her aunt and uncle, Elva is ecstatic. Suspicious of these unknown elves, Art shares his concerns—but Elva tunes out his buzzing.

When her parents declare they have come to take her home to Scotland for her contractually obligated wedding, Art is devastated. Will his best friend leave with her newfound family and soon-to-be-husband? Or will he be able to convince her that he is the beekeeper of her heart?

Goodreads * Amazon

Aside from his one trip to Rome on the way to visit his grandfather in Greece, Art had never seen so many cats in one place. Before he could begin counting them, his parents dragged him through the enormous front door with the stained-glass window at the top and a cat door at the bottom. Squealing elders clustered around him, pinching his cheeks, patting his head, shaking his hand, and peppering him with so many questions his head spun.
A silver-haired woman with a big nose inspected him like he was for sale. “Small for ten years old. Eyeglasses? No one else in the family is near-sighted. You must read too much.” She glared at him. “Well, what do you have to say for yourself, young man?”
“N-n-nothing.”
A chubby woman in a red and green flamingo-bedecked muumuu took his hand. “Pay no mind to her, dear. Do you like desserts?”
“Y-y-yes.”
“Come with me. I made a fresh batch of baklava.”
His mother placed a hand on his shoulder. “No sweets before dinner. Go play.”
Yes!
“Okay, Mom.” Eager to escape his weird relatives, Art raced outside to the porch. Cats were everywhere. Lounging cats, stretching cats, standing cats, strolling cats, rolling cats, rubbing cats—cats, cats, cats! Two huge cats sat like Egyptian statues at the top of the banister, black tails dangling down in question marks, masked golden eyes boring holes into his forehead. Rocking chairs meant for humans seated two and three felines, in furry piles, paws splayed in all directions. All bicolor, the herd of kitties sported stripes, spots, or random patterns in an endless variation of shapes.
How many are there?
He started a mental tally, turned a corner, and immediately lost count. A girl, one foot curled under her, sat reading on a wicker bench. She pushed a strand of long blonde hair away from her eyes and tucked it behind her ear. Her pointed ear. Entranced at the sight of another kid at this old folks’ home—much less an elf—he couldn’t tear his gaze away from her.
Without taking her eyes off her book, she said, “It’s rude to stare.”
“S-s-sorry. Y-y-your ears are pointed?” As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he hated himself.
Frowning, she glared at him with ice blue eyes. “You don’t like them?”
“N-n-no—I LOVE them!”
Her face reddened. “Really? You’re not just saying that?”
He shook his head. “I’ve n-n-never met anyone like you.”
I’m an idiot. Why can’t I say anything right?
She stuck a piece of paper at her page and closed the book. “What’s your name?”
“Art.”
“I’m Elva. Why are you here?”
“V-v-visiting relatives.” He ventured a question. “Wh-wh-what are you doing here?”
She shrugged. “I live here.”

It’s nothing personal…

It all seems simple enough—Ukrainian immigrant Nadja Petrov is determined to hold on to her thriving new coffee shop, Nadja’s Literary Cappuccino, and Java Beans District Rep Kevin Langley is equally determined to move into her North Iowa town with a franchise and run her out of business.

He scopes her out, she keeps a watchful eye on him, and the sparring begins. But there are other players involved, and the web of intrigue soon threatens Nadja, her shop, and her aunt as well as Kevin, his potential franchise, and his son.

Within this cauldron simmers a sexual attraction between Nadja and Kevin that catapults them to overcome their fears of intimacy and commitment. Their lovemaking is tender and raw. Their love is nearly lost in tragedy—can it survive doubts, fire, and even a death?

🔥🔥🔥

Excerpt

Set Up: Kevin has driven three hours and dropped by unannounced late in the evening…

“Come in,” Nadja said, her voice just above a whisper. “I’ve wanted to call you, but I didn’t know how.” She grimaced. “I made a mistake. I know you didn’t talk to the newspaper reporter.”

“How do you know that?” Kevin folded his arms across his chest.

She tried her best to ignore her memory of him standing bare-chested in her kitchen. She failed miserably. “Because you said you wouldn’t lie to me.”

“And you trusted that?”

“Once I had time to think about it, yes.” She brushed back tears. “I’m sorry I panicked.”

“I know.” His voice was soft. “Let me.” He wiped away her tears. “You were badly frightened. It was best for me to leave—though I wasn’t thrilled about that at the time.” He gave her a quirky smile. “I guess we both needed some space for reflection.”

She nodded, grabbed his hand, and led him toward her kitchen. “You want some coffee, or wine?”

“Wine would be great. That would be relaxing.”

She led the way to the kitchen, where she grabbed an open bottle of wine from the fridge. “Hope you like Pinot Grigio. It’s what I have left.”

“That’ll be quite fine. Maybe it will help me unwind. I did speed more than I usually do getting down here. I wasn’t at all sure you’d even talk to me.”

Nadja chewed on her lower lip, then handed him a glass of wine. “I think I’d like to do more than talk, if you want to.” She paused. “Maybe a little of this,” she whispered, rising on her toes to slant her lips across his. She parted before he had a chance to react. “Why don’t we take our glasses into the living room?”

They settled on the couch, and she held a glass in one hand and intertwined the fingers of her other hand with his.

He squeezed. “Do you have anything on under that robe?”

She grinned, certain he’d wanted to ask that question ever since he’d gotten over his initial nervousness. She shook her head and squeezed his fingers back. “I wasn’t expecting company.”

“And if you’d known I would ring your doorbell this evening? Would you have worn something else?”

“It would not have made any difference.” She blushed and glanced away.

“Unless you chickened out?”

“That could’ve happened, I suppose.” She jutted out her chin. “But you’re here now. And I’m not running away this time. And yes, I am naked under this robe. Does that fascinate you?” She saw no need to inform him that she’d become very wet, almost as wet as when she played with her wand.

He brushed a finger across her willing lips. “More than I can say. Before I kiss you, I need to let you to know I met with my bosses at Java Beans. They are no longer interested in buying your property. They remain committed to setting up a franchise in the Northern Iowa area. But they are not at all pleased about someone misrepresenting them in the paper.”

“I don’t want to talk about that now.” She pushed back a lock of hair from her brow. “I thought you came to see me. I want you to see me. All of me.”

She held his gaze steady and guided his hand under her robe until her hand and his cradled a breast. She moaned when his fingers came to life. She left him there, wrapped both of her arms around his neck, and leaned across to kiss his partly open mouth. She swallowed whatever verbal response he made while his fingers continued caressing her breast.

About I Am Not For Sale

I Am Not for Sale was born in the fortuitous intersection of several threads when Mr. Kraft and I lived in a small Midwest town – our favorite sole proprietor espresso café, the opening of a newly authorized casino in the next county, the growth of a new regional chain of espresso cafés, and a trip one of us took to Ukraine at about the same time. Our heroine is a feisty self-sufficient recent Ukrainian immigrant to the U.S. whose aunt helps her open an espresso café in their small town. Her café,  the new chain of cafés, and the possibility of a new local casino are on a collision course…
