Praise for Megastar

In Megastar, readers receive a powerful tale of teen Addison Stone, who reaches the pinnacle of international singing success but also creates distance from the woman he loves, lost to stardom and addiction. The author blends realistic dialogue and character insights into the story of how pasts are either set aside or influence future decision-making. Libraries and readers seeking novels steeped in reflective accounts of changing love and ambition will find Megastar thought-provoking and worthy of book club debate and discussion as its hero attempts to move from tragedy to uplifting new possibilities in both life and love.

5 Stars. D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

Novels that feature celebrities are of enormous interest to the reading public. Megastar features teen Addison Stone reaching the heights of fame without the usual pitfalls that so often overshadow the rich and famous. The story concentrates on Addison’s feelings, portraying how money and fame cannot replace the loss of the woman he loves love. I kept expecting the story to take a different path, but time after time, I was surprised and simply had to keep reading to the explosive ending. I highly recommend this book. A well-deserved 5 stars!

Ornery Owl's Review:

Four out of Five Stars

Being a pop star is a dream come true—or is it more of a nightmare?

In Megastar, Addison Stone learns about both the blessing and the curse of fame. A shy young man raised by his troubled single mother, Lacy, with the help of Ben, a kind neighbor who acts as a father figure to both of them, Addison spends much of his time in his room with his computer. One day, Ben hears Addison singing along with the song Your Love and is impressed by his voice. Ben encourages Addison to express his talent by singing in the church choir. The choir director is so impressed by Addison's singing that she sends a tape of the performance to a talent agency, and Addison's destiny is sealed.

Addison is never entirely comfortable with fame, although it allows him to help his mother and Ben, which makes him feel good. He falls in love with a young woman named Hanna, who is the daughter of the couple behind the Sing America Sing program. However, Addison screws things up with Hanna when he cheats on her with two women who come to his hotel room one night.

Throughout the novel, the author creates intriguing, unique, and easy-to-empathize characters. Despite this, the narrative often reads like a report, and the dialogue does not flow naturally. Furthermore, it is unlikely that Americans would use the expletive "bloody," which appears several times throughout the narrative.

The theme of needing to do the right thing regardless of status or renown runs throughout the story. Popular performers are often excused for inappropriate behavior. A poor attitude, however, will ultimately backfire on them. Addison is not as over the top as some pop stars, but the decision he made with Hanna will haunt him for many years to come.

The author has an impressive background in film and television production. This explains the sometimes stilted narrative. Scripts require a lot of detail and direction to tell the performers and production crew what needs to be done. However, stories require showing the reader what is happening through a character's interactions with other characters and their environment rather than telling the reader exactly what the character is doing and thinking at every moment.

This book differs from most contemporary romance stories. It paints a starkly realistic picture rather than romanticizing a glamorous lifestyle, and I found this approach refreshing. The story has a message that modern celebrity-worshipping society needs to hear: Fame and money can't buy happiness or self-worth, and they won't make troubles disappear.

Adult readers who enjoy a more realistic romance story may appreciate this book. Those looking for a celebration of celebrity or a guaranteed happy ever after won't find it here. Although there are no graphic descriptions of sexual activity or drug and alcohol use, the adult themes in the story make it unsuitable for younger readers.
