Readers Imbibing Peril Challenge 2024: Almost Golden

Fair warning that the video quality is complete dog shit. I couldn't find a better copy.

Jessica Savitch was a charismatic anchorwoman who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. She also fought to be taken seriously as a woman in an old boys' club. Her recent death during the year I graduated from high school last year was tragic.

Just joking. I graduated from high school in 1983.

Jessica wanted to bring light to issues affecting women, such as childbirth, sexual assault, and being female in predominantly male professions such as law enforcement. She worked hard to learn as much as possible about the topics she covered.

Despite her physical attractiveness, Jessica wasn't lucky in love. Her first marriage ended in divorce. Her second husband, who also had addiction issues, committed suicide. She was physically and emotionally abused by one of her boyfriends.

Jessica was only 36 years old at the time of her passing. She died in an auto accident along with her friend Martin Fischbein, vice president of the New York Post. It was raining, and Fischbein lost control of the car, which landed upside down in a canal after a fifteen-foot drop. The vehicle sunk into the muck, trapping the car's occupants inside.

Jessica was posthumously inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame in 2006.

EXCERPT

The urge to measure your worth against others is ever-present, especially today, with the heavy influence of social media. Unfortunately, this constant comparison can lead to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. Instead of falling into this trap, embrace self-love and celebrate your uniqueness. Remember, each of you is unique, with your own strengths, passions, and quirks. When you compare yourself to others, you're often comparing your behind-the-scenes with their highlight reel. This comparison is unfair and unrealistic. Everyone has their struggles, even if they don’t openly share them.

The key is to embrace what makes you different and celebrate your individuality instead of trying to conform to others' expectations. Change your mindset: Instead of comparing yourself to others, focus on your own journey.

Oldest Mom On the Playground Release Blitz #rabtbooktours

 Essays & Collections, Parenting Humor, Women's Non-fiction

Date Published: 09-24-2024

Judy Haveson always believed she would one day “have it all.” Then she turned forty and wondered if she had waited too long. After countless failed first dates and fewer second ones, she finally found love, got married, and became a mother at forty-three.

Oldest Mom on the Playground is a collection of relatable, heartwarming, and humorous essays. Written in her signature conversational style and with a touch of sarcasm, Judy takes readers on her journey of getting pregnant after forty (and delivering the baby during a full moon), raising a child in New York City (including the time she lost him in a grocery store and found him standing on Broadway), leaving the career she spent decades building to volunteer as a preschool class rep, to becoming a card-carrying member of the sandwich generation.

Judy offers no parenting advice, only personal reflection. And she takes nothing in her life for granted. Her message to other midlife mamas is this: trust your gut, let your life experience guide you, and pray no one ever mistakes you for the grandmother.

About the Author

Judy Haveson is the award-winning author of Laugh Cry Rewind—A Memoir. She is known for her sarcastic humor and enjoys sharing stories about her life experiences and observations. Her fascination with storytelling comes from her decades-long career in public relations. Judy once had a boss tell her that there are two types of people: those who know and those who want to know. That boss fired her, but his words became a valuable lesson to always aim to be the one who knows. Judy lives in Hampton Bays, NY, with her husband, Adam, son, Jack, and adorable Yorkie, Toby.

Sister Molly Cleary’s fearless journey to seek reproductive justice for women is a powerful testament to the ongoing struggle for women’s rights. Fighting back is not optional – it is critical

Her story is a call to action for all women to step up, fight for justice and claim their power. The Body Teaser Tuesday #rabtbooktours

Poems and Stories

Poetry, Women

Date Published: Jan 31, 2024

Publisher: Bookbaby

How do you stitch yourself back together after trauma, loss, grief, heartbreak? By inviting what is broken to become what is breathtaking. THE BODY is a collection of poems and short stories written in lyrical prose during the hardest moments of the author's life. This collection explores themes of love, loss, grief, seduction, creativity, consciousness, female empowerment, post- traumatic expansion, and the collective human experience. Because when words are not enough, art is the container that holds what the body cannot. And as the heart breaks open, the soul can be set free.

Be A Surrealist

Be a surrealist.

A beautiful life defies logic and conditioning.

It laughs in the face of convention and dares us to open ourselves to the terror of the possible–

…to lean into sorrow of joy’s inevitable departure.

Whichever dream cannot leave your mind, court her.

Lure her to your bed

and cook her breakfast in the morning.

For the moments you spend together in lock step will feel unreal and uncharted,

And the times you are apart will be beige with dry mouth.

Know this: everything that is not for you feels normal,

And everything that is yours

will terrify, seduce, and astound you with life surreal.

The Key to Guilt Free Success for Working Moms Blitz #rabtbooktours

Lose the Stress, Embrace Your Supermom Powers

Self-Help

Date Published: January 3, 2023

If you are a woman trying to have, and manage, it ALL—your family, your work, your ever-escaping inner aah—then this book is for you.

We all walk in the same trying-to-keep-it-together shoes. Every day, we try. And if some of us can pull it off in designer shoes—you go, girl! I want what you’re having for breakfast. Err—scratch that. I meant, lunch of course. Who has time for breakfast if your day starts anywhere close to mine? The sound of that first wake-up bell, as alarming as it is—is a further reminder of the daily mad dash that lurks just ahead. Our day’s race has only begun, where almost anything is sure to happen.

• We’re pulled between our children, husband, and work. Just pick one. But you know the drill—just take a deep breath, dive in and roll with it. Try.

• Whatever you do, don’t attempt any of it without INTENTION to power through. The winning inner- gredient for us lucky ones, who have found our long-lost Superwoman Hat (aka, mojo), reminds us we still have what it takes to help create a day with less chaos.

• Here’s how this book will help get you there:

• Start your day with that big I-word, Intention. It will do wonders for locking in that S-identity, Superwoman. As a working wife and mother, you’re not fooling anyone. Isn’t that who you are, my S-sisters? Own up to you. Your individual power and your still real potential. Even if you misplaced it amid all the noise.

• Find that buried you. Start digging. Your inner strength is there to be rediscovered.

While daily chaos doesn’t really go away and is the dominating theme of any day, we can still try to stay ahead of it. But don’t go it alone. Let these pages spark some overdue inspiration, tips and ideas. This is not just what works for me, but a tribute to all women who are trying to power through the madness of full lives (no easy feat for us girls, as we all know). To find that missing peace, our sunny side UP—as the way forward in this “trying to master having it all” sisterhood.

I got you! And you got this!
